If you only glance at the big number beside a player's name, you'll miss half the story. That matters when you're building a roster, choosing a bench bat, or deciding where to spend MLB 26 stubs. MLB The Show 26 uses different roster environments, and the same player can look noticeably different in Play Now and Live Series. The mode, update date, position, and individual attributes all shape the way that rating plays on the field.

Look Beyond the Biggest Names

The elite group includes Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt Jr., Garrett Crochet, Paul Skenes, Shohei Ohtani, Tarik Skubal, and Zack Wheeler at 99 overall. Juan Soto sits at 98, while Chris Sale and Francisco Lindor are at 97. That list is useful, but it doesn't tell you how each player earns the number. A hitter may rely on power and contact, while a pitcher reaches the same level through control, velocity, movement, stamina, and run prevention. Two 99-rated players can feel completely different once the game starts.

Ramírez Offers Reliable Value

José Ramírez's 95 overall rating on Cleveland's Play Now roster makes sense because his profile rarely leaves you searching for a workaround. He owns 90 contact and 81 power against left-handed pitching, along with 92 vision, 80 clutch, 80 fielding, 88 stealing, and 73 speed. He isn't built around one flashy number. He gives you options. He can hit in several lineup spots, handle third base, run well enough to create pressure, and stay useful against different opponents.

DeLauter's Numbers Tell a Better Story

Chase DeLauter shows why old ratings deserve a second look. His current Play Now overall is 84, with 77 contact against right-handers, 70 against left-handers, 81 power against right-handers, 75 against left-handers, and 77 speed. His Live Series rating moved from 65 to 72 on May 8, then to 73 on June 12, and 78 on July 16. The August 14 update left him at 78, even though several individual hitting values changed. Here's the useful comparison.

Build Around Fit, Not Hype

Cleveland's roster is deeper than Ramírez's headline score suggests. The starting group averages 81.9, the full roster averages 76.2, the rotation averages 79.4, and the bullpen averages 68.6. Steven Kwan is rated 83, Jo Adell 81, Angel Martinez 79, Nathaniel Lowe 77, Patrick Bailey 76, Travis Bazzana 75, and Brayan Rocchio 75. Before locking in a lineup, check these points.

Confirm which roster mode you're using.
Check the date of the latest update.
Compare platoon contact and power.
Review defense, speed, vision, and clutch.
Match the player to the role you actually need.

That approach makes the roster feel more personal. Ramírez gives you balance, Kwan brings contact and defensive value, and DeLauter offers growing power with useful speed. If you're adjusting a Cleveland lineup or planning your next purchase, compare attributes first and use MLB 26 stubs for sale only after you know which player genuinely fits your style.
